Construction - Residential Construction
100 Hours
This 100 hour course is divided into four modules (25 hours each) which provide an introduction to the various stages of home building.
Topics include Construction Safety/OSHA, Practical Framing & Sheathing, Roof & Siding Systems and Interior Finish.
*10 Hour OSHA Certification offered in Module I.
Students are required to bring your own safety gear (jeans or workpants, leather boots that cover the ankle, clear safety glasses)
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

Apply general construction site safety practices, including proper use of tools and equipment

Identify and mitigate common construction-related hazards

Explain the purpose of OSHA and the CDC and their role in protecting workers

Explore construction career pathways and understand current labor market trends

Accurately calculate linear feet for job-site applications

Identify common construction materials and select appropriate materials for specific tasks

Interpret basic residential blueprints

Install subfloors, windows, and door frames according to industry standards
-
Perform basic interior wall framing and sheathing
-
Identify concrete types and reinforcing materials and explain their uses

Demonstrate safe practices when working with scaffolds, ladders, sawhorses, and fall protection systems

Identify roof styles and correctly use roofing terminology
-
Lay out and construct common rafters, gable end studs, hip rafters, and valley rafters
-
Assemble truss and gable roofs and install roof sheathing
-
Fit, hang, and install doors and locksets
-
Install windows of various sizes following manufacturer guidelines
-
Install gypsum board and properly tape, reinforce, and finish joints
-
Demonstrate foundational knowledge of residential electrical systems
-
Demonstrate foundational knowledge of residential plumbing systems

Apply basic construction finishing techniques
