Driver Education Program

Program Overview

This 48-hour non-credit Driver Education program teaches students safe and responsible driving skills, including participation in the highway transportation system. The course includes:

  • 24 hours of classroom instruction

  • 24 hours of in-car instruction

    • 6 hours behind the wheel

    • 18 hours of observation

Successful completion may satisfy the NYS 5-hour pre-licensing course requirement.

Please note:
This course alone will not prepare students to pass the road test. The NYS DMV requires at least 50 hours of supervised practice driving in addition to this program.

Attendance Requirements

To comply with NYS DMV regulations and receive the MV-285 certificate, students must complete all required hours.

  • Students may miss up to 2 classroom sessions and 2 in-car sessions.

  • If a student must miss class due to illness, emergency, or any reason, they must notify the instructor before the session and attend a scheduled make-up class.

  • Students who exceed absence limits or skip required make-up sessions will be ineligible for the MV-285 certificate.

  • Weather or emergency closings will be rescheduled by the instructor.

If students anticipate multiple conflicts, we recommend enrolling in a future session.

Driving Instruction

This schedule lists classroom sessions only.
Students will be assigned one in-car driving lesson per week, scheduled Sunday–Saturday.

Please complete the Driving Lesson Selection Form (Step 4 of registration) to rank your preferred lesson times. While we do our best to accommodate preferences, first choices cannot be guaranteed.
